Original Gravity

The '''Original Gravity(OG)''' of a beer is the [[specific gravity]] of the beer measured before fermentation has started. It is typically measured in the fermenter before yeast has been added. If one knows the original gravity and [[Final Gravity]] of a beer, several important characteristics such as the percent of alcohol ([[ABV]] or [[ABW]]) can be calculated.
