The New York native grew up reading the novels of the Bronte sisters and Jane Austen. She tried writing a novel during her high school years, but she ended up with a collection of short stories. Her school paper published two of her works. It was during her junior year at the University of Denver that she read Ralph Waldo Emerson&amp;#039;s writings. It changed her approach to writing. Phillis plans to write about Emerson&amp;#039;s contribution to literature.&lt;/div&gt;</summary>
